Dear Governor Perry,

The challenging economy in Texas and across this country over the last few years has taught us the importance of promoting savings and making sound financial decisions to support financial security for families and communities in our state. Unfortunately here in Texas, too many families are financially insecure: the net worth of Texans is about half of the national average; one in four Texans are asset poor; over one million Texas families lack a checking account; and Texas has the lowest high school attainment rate in the nation.

To rectify this situation, Texas needs bold state policies that support financially strong families and increase economic security and the opportunity for financial success for all Texans.

RAISE Texas is a statewide network of non-profit organizations, for-profit corporations, and public institutions working to advance policies, programs and products that build financial success and economic stability for all Texans. RAISE Texas works to support asset-building activities that provide the tools and incentives necessary to reach more Texans. Texas works best when everyone has a job, everyone has a savings account, and everyone is contributing to the local community and the state.

As we approach the next legislative session in 2011, we encourage you to support high impact public policies that are designed to provide Texas families with the opportunity to increase their assets and net worth and support greater financial success across the state.
