This webinar will provide information on why saving at tax time is important, share best practices on how to promote saving at VITA sites and highlight successful tax time savings projects in Texas from last tax season.

Speakers from Foundation Communities and Greater Longview United Way will discuss their projects from last tax season, which incentivized VITA site filers to save a portion of their tax refund by purchasing U.S. Savings Bonds.

Henrietta Muñoz from United Way San Antonio will talk about United Way San Antonio’s Save USA project. San Antonio was one of only four cities selected for a grant to operate the project. The SaveUSA matched savings program, which began as SaveNYC in 2008, has been recognized nationally as an effective program to incentivize tax time savings.

Laura Rosen, OpportunityTexas Coordinator, will summarize lessons learned from OpportunityTexas’ inaugural season supporting tax time savings incentives at VITA sites statewide.
